Famous Engagements in Pop Culture

Sometimes, it’s great to reminisce happy tales from better days, including stories that revolve around love and weddings. Many people enjoy reveling in photos of Hollywood stars’ gowns and engagement rings. But sometimes, it is also great to look back on the exact event when the engagement proposal happened. It is something that could make us smile for a while.

If you like to read about engagements and wedding proposals, you’re in the right place. Today, we are giving you a list of famous engagements in pop culture.

1. Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union

Others make one special proposal, but Dwyane Wade did a three-in-one family affair. In December 2013, NBA star Dwyane Wade, his partner Gabrielle Union and Wade’s children went to visit the construction site of their new house. After touring the house, Wade’s kids were downstairs by the pool while Dwyane and Gabrielle remained upstairs.

The kids told her that they want to do a presentation for her. She and Dwyane turned around for a while until the kids said they’re ready. When she turned back around, all the boys were holding up signs that said, “Will you marry us?” According to Gabrielle, she didn’t know how to react during that time. She turned and looked at Dwyane, and he’s down on one knee with a ring and said, “Will you marry us?” She said, yes!

2. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle happened when they were home together one night at Nottingham Cottage. Harry described it as a standard, typical night for both of them. They were just trying to roast a chicken when the surprise proposal happened. Meghan hardly let Harry finish his proposal before saying yes.

3. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

Kanye West’s proposal to Kim Kardashian is one of the most epic proposals of all time. This was revealed on the reality star’s show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kanye spared no expense when it came to ask Kim to marry him. The entire proposal cost him almost $5 million AUD to pull off.

Kanye rented out San Francisco’s AT&T ballpark. There, he brought Kim blindfolded onto a pitch-black baseball field where a 50-piece orchestra serenaded her with the song Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey. As this happens, their friends and family all hid in the dugout silentlyas they wait for their turn to join the event. After that, Kanye dropped to one knee, and the scoreboard flashed, “PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!!!” before he showed Kim with a 15-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring.

4. Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra

Jonas Brothers singer Nick and the Bollywood star Priyanka had a pretty sweet proposal tale aside from their adorable “how they met” story. It was in mid-2018 when Nick Jonas got down on one knee in the Greek Island of Crete, where he took Priyanka to celebrate her 36th birthday.

He waited until after midnight to not overshadow Chopra’s birthday. He had the ring with him, which he got from Tiffany & Co. in London. When he got down on one knee and asked her, “Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” she was silent for a while. Nick pressed on and said he’s going to put the ring on her finger unless she has any objections. And the rest is history.

5. John Legend and Chrissy Teigen

John Legend proposed to Chrissy Teigen in 2011 in the Maldives. John said that he knew he was going to propose by then, and he’s planning it a couple of months in advance.

While at the airport, he hid the ring in an ordinary box and put it in his carry-on bag so that Chrissy would not suspect anything. However, while going through the airport security, his bag was checked, and the security wanted to look in the box. Chrissy was standing next to John at that time. For some reason, they decided not to look in the box, and he eventually gets past airport security to propose to Chrissy in the Maldives.

6. Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry

Orlando Bloom’s proposal to Katy Perry didn’t quite go to plan. According to Katy Perry, Orlando’s very romantic but slightly hectic Valentine’s proposal included a helicopter ride, a ripped coat, and smashed bottles of champagne.

While they are in the helicopter, the ring was in Orlando’s pocket. He also had written down everything he wanted to say on a note. As he reads the note, he struggled to get the large ring box out of his pocket. As he tugged, his coat ripped, and his elbow smashed into the champagne bottles. Fortunately, the rest of the event went off without any problems.

After proposing, the helicopter landed on a rooftop where all of Katy’s friends and family are waiting to celebrate.

7. Emmy Rossum and Sam Esmail

Film director Sam Esmail’s proposal to the Shameless actress Emmy Rossum is worthy of a rom-com. He had their love story published in a fake version of The New York Times’ “Modern Love” section, which they read every weekend. However, when he asked her to read it to her, it did not go quite as planned.

During that time, Emmy was in the bathtub. What she did was read the story aloud. When she realized what it was and that a proposal was happening, she thought the story can’t be that she was in the bathtub when it happened. She got out of the tub wrapped in a towel. She saw him down on a knee in the bathroom.

These are some of the famous and we can say romantic and adorable engagements in pop culture. Getting engaged is a rare occasion for a person. That’s why most people do their best to pull the proposal off the best way that they can. Others, on the other hand, prefer it to be simple, intimate, and very personal.
